Buckets were founded to create a looping audio tape containing subliminal messages for playback in a student lounge for the sole purpose of inspiring all visitors to paint the lounge black. We failed at this miserably. Instead we assembled all our gear on a school day at Pete’s house neighboring a public school in Weehawken, New Jersey. We turned everything on and improvised for several hours. This resulted in “They Kicked It” which was recorded on a really cheap cassette deck using a Radio Shack stereo microphone. The recording levels were auto-set by the recording deck. So during moments of quiet, the hum grows louder. After that experience we narrowed ourselves down to a four-piece punk band. Our musical influences included Ralph Vaughan-Williams, Antonin Dvorak, Bach, Vivaldi, Early Hungarian Gregorian Chant, Eastern European traditional folk music, Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, Richard Hell, Bad Brains, Black Flag, Minor Threat, Agnostic Front, Heart Attack, False Prophets, Crass, The Damned, Art, King Crimson, Brian Eno, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, James Blood Ulmer, PIL, Sonic Youth, The Tryfles, The Fuzztones, The Headless Horsemen, Jeff Beck, Ron Carter, the Pink Floyd, Motorhead, Devo, Klaus Nomi, and Elvis Presley, and many others.
